Nancy Jamison
Executive Director
Nancy Jamison has served as Executive Director of San Diego Grantmakers (SDG) since 2005. During her tenure, the organization has grown in size and prominence in both local and national philanthropic communities. Nancy has overseen the launch and expansion of many SDG initiatives: successful funder collaborations; public policy efforts including the San Diego Giving Stories project; work addressing the economy and diversity in grantmaking; and reports on organized giving in our region.
Previously, Nancy was a Senior Consultant for TrustWorks Group, a leading San Diego organizational development firm, providing strategic planning, leadership and team development for nonprofits, associations and corporations. She is also the co-author of the TrustWorks series of training products on how to build trust in the workplace, now marketed by the Ken Blanchard Companies.
Nancy was a Vice President at Wells Fargo Bank, where she worked in a variety of positions over 10 years, including branch manager, marketing, advertising and training.
Nancy has served as a volunteer and board member with several nonprofit organizations including the Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, National Charity League, San Dieguito Academy Foundation and the Canyon Crest Academy Foundation. She has recently been named to the board of the national Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, where she served on the Strategic Planning Committee. In 2010 she was on the planning committee for the Council on Foundations national Family Philanthropy Conference and she joined the Leadership Circle for Nonprofit Management Solutions.

Phyllis Levine
Director of Member Services
Phyllis Levine has served as the Director of Member Services for San Diego Grantmakers since September 2006. She is responsible for organizational operations ranging from member services to event coordination and grant administration.
Phyllis’s career has spanned more than 20 years of association and nonprofit sector experience at the local, national and international levels with a focus on association management, chapter relations, conference planning, program development, and volunteer recruitment and training. She has worked for such organizations as the Project Management Institute, the Tourette Syndrome Association and Women’s American ORT.
Phyllis received her Master of Science from Columbia University and Bachelor of Arts from the Statue University of New York College at Oswego. Phyllis and her husband, Howard Dreskin, moved to the San Diego area 10 years ago from the east coast. They currently reside in Carlsbad. |

Michelle Slingerland
Director of Communications
As Director of Communications, Michelle Slingerland oversees San Diego Grantmakers’ internal and external communications, marketing and public relations.
Prior to joining SDG, Michelle was the Public Affairs Manager at another local membership organization, the San Diego County Apartment Association (SDCAA), where she advocated on behalf of the rental housing industry at the local and state levels as well as managed communications and media activities. Michelle also previously worked at the marketing and advertising agency Roni Hicks and Associates, focusing on the community outreach and public affairs needs of the agency’s real estate development clients.
Michelle earned her Bachelor of Arts, Communication with an Emphasis in Public Relations, from San Diego State University. Born and raised in San Diego County, she and her husband Doug are raising their two young children in San Diego. |

Justin Schaberg
Member Services Associate
Justin is a transplant from Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to moving to San Diego, he worked for the Open Society Institute–Baltimore as a Program Associate for the Criminal and Juvenile Justice and the Education and Youth Development programs. Justin’s practical experience has been underscored with academic training in nonprofit management from the Institute for Policy Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Here in Southern California he is looking to continue his career in philanthropy and to enjoy the California lifestyle. He is also continuing his studies in the University of San Diego Nonprofit Management and Leadership program.
Prior to working at OSI, Justing was a volunteer English teacher in Hungary and worked in the IT department at a cancer research center in Seattle, Washington. He holds a degree in Central and East European studies from the University of Colorado.

Meagan Larsen
Administrative Assistant
Meagan joined San Diego Grantmakers in September of 2012 and works as a part-time office assistant, helping with general office management.
In addition to her work with SDG, Meagan is a full time student and is currently pursuing her bachelor's degrees in both English and Spanish from the University of San Diego, planning to graduate in May 2013. Originally from Portland, Oregon, Meagan has always had a passion for service and has diverse volunteer experience both domestically and abroad teaching English, working in homeless shelters, and in hospitals. For the past six summers Meagan has spent her time working as a lifeguard in Portland, but is excited to delve into the nonprofit world. |
