Background

The San Diego Workforce Funders Collaborative (SDWFC) was founded in 2006 as a public/private partnership of philanthropic foundations, employers, and public workforce development agencies to identify the region’s workforce needs, create coordinated and financed solutions, and monitor regional success.  A major objective of the SDWFC is to focus on employer engagement by funding job training programs for low wage workers that impact systems change.

The San Diego Workforce Partnership (a nonprofit public benefit organization initiated by a joint powers agreement between the City and County of San Diego in 1976) is a member of, and the fiduciary agent for, the SDWFC.

Recent SDWFC News

In December 2010, SDWFC received a grant of $396,625 for two years to expand its support of programs that seek to resolve the region’s most pressing workforce challenges.  SDWFC was one of only 10 organizations throughout the country granted a total of $5.5 million from the National Fund for Workforce Solutions and its national implementation partner, Jobs for the Future.  The award is the first step in the National Fund’s effort to disperse funds it received from the federal government’s landmark Social Innovation Fund to develop innovative approaches to job training and career support.  The National Fund for Workforce Solutions invests in collaborations across the nation to support and guide the work of each and allow an opportunity for a national platform.
