  • Leaders from Qualcomm, Sempra, Intuit, Scripps and The Lawton Group (formerly TLC Staffing), have come together in an effort to help put San Diegans to work.  This volunteer collaboration has resulted in the creation of the Pacific Center for Workforce Innovation (PCWI), an independent nonprofit corporation that complements the work of the San Diego Workforce Partnership.  The vision of PCWI is “Every person sustainably employed in a field of passion; every business with a sustainable supply of local talent.”  For more information, please contact jessicamosier@workforce.org.
  • In December, Gary and Mary West Foundation Executive Director Erin Spiewak stepped down from her position to become the CEO of the Monarch School for homeless children in San Diego.  All our best to you, Erin!
  • On Dec. 1, 2011 – World AIDS Day – the San Diego HIV Funding Collaborative (SDHFC) and AIDS Walk San Diego announced more than $400,000 in grants being awarded to 10 local agencies.  Each year, the SDHFC at the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation serves in the grant-making role for AIDS Walk San Diego.  Funders of this effort include SDG members The Parker Foundation, the McCarthy Family Foundation, Alliance Healthcare Foundation, and the Sunshine Brooks Fund at the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation.
  • The San Diego Foundation’s GiveBIG match event in December exceeded its expectations with more than $2 million in donations.  As a result, TSDF’s Board of Directors approved increasing the match amount to 13 percent.
  • The Rancho Santa Fe Foundation has a new website.  Check it out today!  In December, RSFF celebrated its 30 years of philanthropy with an event at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe with more than 450 members, beneficiaries and friends.
  • Cox Communications’ new Director of Community Relations Cami Mattson was profiled in a Del Mar Times article early this month.
  • San Diego Social Venture Partners was profiled in a Dec. 29, 2011 article in the Rancho Santa Fe Review.
  • Doug Sawyer, president and CEO of the United Way of San Diego County, authored an Op-Ed that ran in the Union-Tribune about several of its programs that help the residents of San Diego.
  • Fifteen local artists will share more than $285,000 from The San Diego Foundation.  This unique grant program is discussed more in articles by VoiceofSanDiego.org. and CityBeat.
  • Tracy Johnson, director of San Diego Women's Foundation, was quoted in this Reuters article about women being drivers of charitable giving.
  • The San Diego Workforce Partnership’s President and CEO Mark Cafferty has accepted the position of President and CEO at the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation.  Mark had recently received the San Diego Business Journal’s 7th Annual Most Admired CEO Award.
  • The James Irvine Foundation announced 45 grants totaling $19 million to nonprofit organizations working to expand opportunity for the people of California, including $500,000 over two years to the Old Globe Theatre to engage San Diego's underserved communities in the creation of live theater.
  • This Op-Ed in the Union-Tribune by Women Give San Diego member Deirdre Maloney quotes local community foundation leaders Marjory Kaplan, Bob Kelly and Christy Wilson about the importance of philanthropy to our communities.
  • The report, A Domestic Violence Organization Steers Towards a More Sustainable Future, profiles the Center for Community Solutions, an SDG member Blue Shield Against Violence (BSAV) grantee, as a case study of how one domestic violence (DV) organization worked toward long-term financial sustainability.
