| Overview: |
Did you know that among the 1.6 million women and girls who call San Diego home:
- More than 1 million are women of "working age"
- More than 350,000 are foreign born women
- More than 200,000 are 65 and older
- More than 90,000 are women who are undocumented/unauthorized
- Close to 80,000 are single mothers with children under 18 years old
- Approximately 11,500 are active duty military, 22,609 female veterans, and at least 50,000 are military wives
- At least 60,000 are currently unemployed
Last summer, a new donors circle of the Women’s Foundation of California called WomenGive San Diego commissioned a report to explore how best to meet the unique needs of women and girls in San Diego County.
An analysis of earnings, employment trends and poverty rates at the national, state and local levels reveal that inequalities persist even as women's participation and penetration in the economy broadens. Research shows that economic growth for women has an important multiplier effect. Women are more likely to share their economic gains with their families and communities at large.
We invite you to join us as we present the findings of an extensive research report focused upon meeting some the the unique needs of women in San Diego County. Included will be: "What's Promising" and "What's Troubling" about women in San Diego. Please join us for a research overview and facilitated discussion about how these findings may be applicable to your giving and how we might all work collaboratively to benefit our communities.
